"Why does everything have to be so complicated?" |
So, I'll get to introductions later. I'm just going to start by saying this...
Creating a blog on blogger is both simple and nearly impossible at the same time.
A few months ago I read that the number of blogs doubles every six months. I believe that after this last experience. Here's what happened:
Me: Good morning me!
Myself: Good morning! Ready to do some writing?
Me: Why yes! I've decided that this blog will be called "Shut up and Listen". What do you think?
Myself: Sounds pretty cool I guess. Although it sounds a little bit rude.
Me: I realize that but it's attention grabbing. I want people to think I'm some authority on life since I can demand their attention that way.
Myself: (Silence)
Me: What?
Myself: *Sigh* Let's get to it I guess.
(Back to me writing to the readers)
So at this point, you probably think I'm crazy. I'm sorry you feel that way, but generally people who are a little crazy are more fun to listen to. So, never mind. I'm not sorry. Tell your friends.
Anyway, I log in to blogger and begin to type out the name of the blog
S-h-u-t u-o-[delete key]-p a-n-d l-i-s-t-e-n
then I tab down to create the new URL (I'm getting excited with all this suspenseful writing). I type it in here again: s-h-u-t-u-p-a-n-d-l-i-s-t-e-n
At this point Google uses magic and does a quick search to check it's availability and "IT"S AVAILABLE! YES!" I think to myself. I choose the template and click "Create Blog"
...
Now I get a message saying :
"Subdomain not available"
"It's unavailable? Weird."
So I do I search for "shutupandlisten.blogspot.com" and there's an obviously brand new, but obviously not my brand new blog, sitting there waiting for someone other than me to add content to it.
At this point I tried again and again. Over and over. The entire experience repeated itself 20-30 times. Every single cleverly titled URL I could think of had been taken between the time it took me to type it in and find that it was available, choose a template, and then save it.
"Wow! This is seriously insane" I thought.
This thought changed things for me for two reasons. One of them superbly profound. The other perfectly fortuitous.
1) I realized that I am not unique or creative. I mean 20-30 people had the exact same flow of ideas I had within the last 10 minutes. Is someone else out there writing about having this experience, except that I'm stealing their URL?! Is there a giant Grizzly Bear knocking on my front door or is that just my dementia? More importantly, is there someone else in the world as worried about Grizzly Bear salespeople as I am?
What I just learned is that there is actually a good possibility that there are other people asking themselves those exact same questions. And that, my good readership, is NOT OKAY.
2) I got a little off track with number one and have forgotten.... Oh yeah!
The second reason why things have now changed is that I have a new URL that I can try ( thisisseriouslyinsane.blogspot.com of course) and I have my very first blog post all figured out (Never mind the fact that someone else out there may be writing the same exact thing).
*A sigh of relief*

I hope some of you out there can relate to this. And furthermore I hope you have succeeded in determining the subject of this blog. But in case you missed it...
I'll be telling you all about why I repeatedly think to myself:
"THIS IS SERIOUSLY INSANE"
